Taco Sloppy Joes bring a zesty twist to a classic favorite! Ground beef, diced onion, and taco seasoning mingle in a savory tomato sauce.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (about 1 ounce)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Step 2: Stir in the taco seasoning mix, tomato sauce, and water. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  3. Step 3: Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  4. Step 4: While the mixture cooks, toast the hamburger buns lightly in a separate skillet or toaster.
  5. Step 5: Once the sloppy joe mixture is ready, spoon it generously onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and add any optional toppings you desire before placing the top half of the bun on.
  6. Step 6: Serve immediately and enjoy your Taco Sloppy Joes!

Notes

  • For optimal freshness, store leftover Taco Sloppy Joes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
  • When reheating, gently warm the mixture on the stovetop over low heat, adding a splash of water or tomato sauce if it appears too thick.
  • Serve your Taco Sloppy Joes with a side of tortilla chips and salsa for an extra crunch, or pair them with a refreshing salad for a balanced meal.
  • For added depth of flavor, consider sautéing some bell peppers along with the onion before adding the ground beef; this will enhance the taste and texture of your sloppy joes.
