Celebrate the season with vibrant winter holiday Crinkle Cookies (Red & Green)! Rich cocoa and festive colors unite in a soft, chewy delight. Follow our detailed guide for baking success!

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red and green colored sugar or powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Step 2: In another bowl, mix the granulated sugar with the melted butter until smooth. Add in the eggs and alcohol-free vanilla extract, beating well until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Step 3: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. The dough will be thick; cover and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Step 4: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Once chilled, scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
  5. Step 5: Roll each ball in red or green colored sugar (or powdered sugar) to coat completely, then place them on the prepared baking sheet about two inches apart.
  6. Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes. The cookies will puff up and then crinkle as they cool. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For optimal freshness, store your Crinkle Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze them for longer storage.
  • If you prefer a warm treat, gently reheat the cookies in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds to restore their soft texture without drying them out.
  • Serve these festive cookies alongside a cup of hot cocoa or coffee, and consider adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top for a delightful contrast to the sweetness.
  • For the perfect crinkle effect, make sure to chill the dough thoroughly before baking; this helps create those beautiful cracks while keeping the cookies chewy inside.
